Thread: Feedback on NewsBarrel.com

Hey guys,

Just wanting some feedback on my new forum, NewsBarrel.com.

We have a great mascot which really shows what the website is all about. The guy with the world as his head represents the world (obviously) and the barrel...yep, you guessed it! (News Barrel).

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the presentation, amount and variety of forums, and also your opinion on how I should go about advertising this site (not a lot of members so far because it's so young).

As a complete aside - you're linking to a site in the footer that is being blocked by Firefox for security reasons!

Really? That's pretty weird... I'd remove the link, but I bought the template from there. I'll email the site owner and let him know about it.

Number of forums ... well there aren't that many forums on it ... what I would worry about is .. who are you trying to attract ?

You've got world news / Sports / web development and so on in there ?

These days I tend to go for specific forums. For example if I want a web dev forum I'll go here ... or IWF ...

I gave up posting so much on a general forum I was part of that had a web dev section ... its got a lot of users but no real sense of community it the web dev section.

Given your low number of users as well .. you've got 40 ? ... how do you plan on growing this number ?

Do you have an advertisting budget ? of course easiest way to attract some traffic is to have the site in your signature. Then if you try having some kinda competition .. it'd be good. Really though from the site its just not clear what you're trying to be ?

Is it for you ? ... is it for your friends ? .. is it for the general public ?

Forums are a dime a dozen .. they come and go .. and unless a user has a real reason to use yours .. (which) I'm not seeing there .. you're going to find it'll trickle along with your 10 "friends" who want to post regularly .. and eventually it'll fade out.

Anyways ... just a few thoughts on it take from them what you will.
