Loose the damn google ads at the top in the first directory and perhaps layout the categories like in the second site. However the second site has far to much information on it i would just leave it with the categories on the front and thats it, the other stuff underneith i couldnt even be bothered to read, to much going on.

The layout on the second site is good layout

i like Jimac more because it really has a nice design which doenst disturb the view on the important content. Suggested a link => easy and uncomplicated.

the only thing is it doesn't validate on http://validator.w3.org/

Both are nice and straightforward. I've never liked light text on a darker background though.
