Default www.pcwebtalk.com - Root of site

I have spent 10 hours in 3 days working on pcwebtalk.com.

I have used;

AJAX
No images
includes/requires
tons of content

Basically anything i feel is brilliant. I have not stopped working on it until now.

I require some reviews of what you think of the layout and how i can improve it. Feel free to point out spelling errors.

Looks OK, simple & clean, shame it's fixed width, I personally hate these sites where there's huge space either side of my browser window.

Where exactly is the AJAX in the root of the site though ?

Also, you should really capitalise people's names, it looks a bit sloppy in lower case, but then again it may be a teen fashion us oldies don't understand

The AJAX is on the download page. Very simple AJAX, but it is better because it would look bad having a list of 12 magazines after a year on 1 page. (20x12=xxx lines)

I tryed to make it 100%, and it worked, but it looked very bad. that stupid QRL thingy, i removed it because it is having 500 errors. (www.qrl.be)

You are right about the capitolization, and i will fix that tonight (i am at school atm).

You didn't ask for feedback on other pages, that explains why there was no JavaScript on the root page

I guess you'll be visiting the other pages and applying the same look & feel ?Might also be worth theming the forums in the same style.

Oops... Still down, looks like a problem with the server. It's in the same DC as one of mine, so I know the DC is up.

I think the AJAX is probably not really needed, however anything that gives your site that slight edge can't be bad and you want your users to have the best possible experince so they come back. The short display of Loading... is a nice touch to enchance the user experience. I've recently coded an AJAX based page on a reporting system and incorporated a JavaScript based content cache so that it only does 1 trip to the server for each content fetch regardless of how many times the user view's the external content.

You still have spelling errors (not that I'm perfect) which ideally shouldn't be on a magazine site. As you have links to the site from other forums, I'd strongly suggest spending a bit of time just getting the content clean & tidy with spelling & grammar correct.

"The best free PC related magazine around"

This is a new project, not many readers. How can you already say it is the best?

Why not, everyone else does, it's called marketing

Given the choice would you visit a site that claimed to be "a new site written by a schoolboy in his spare time with only a handfull of readers" or a site that claimed to be "The best free PC magazine" ?

Please lets review the site as requested and provide Robert with useful feedback rather than attack the marketing.
