I voted for "I have a different type of domain (.info,.tv,.us,.au,etc)" because mine is .org And i am going to try to get a better domain name soon. insted of hostmatrix. But im not even sure if that counts as a domain name.

I've got (hang on while I count) 37. And I've got my beady eye on another one. (I keep trying to talk myself out of it.) They are co.uk/me.uk/org/net/com/info. I get them from www.123reg.co.uk and www.ukreg.com for the UK ones and www.netrillium.com and www.hostway.com for the others. They're all quite cheap. Netrillium will even accept cash. (But you'll never get one for under ?2 a year!)

Just bear in mind that the wholesale price of a .uk is ?5 + vat from Nominet and thats after the member has stumped up ?500 + vat joining and membership fees.

When you add on the costs of running a business, servers, site, staff, rent etc the real cost of supplying a domain name and supporting it gets quite high even when you're registering 1000's of domains a month. Remember that the credit card company and bank charges will add on 2%+ to the sellers cost.

Now consider that 123 reg are selling at something that doesn't even cover the credit card charges.

Off the top of my head, they made something like ?30M loss the year before last and were bought out by Pipex last year. How long are Pipex going to carry on pumping money into a registration service where the primary product makes a loss?

Having said that they're adding about 2000 .com domains a week to their name servers despite being more expensive than ourselves in the com net org arena.

Forgive me for trashing your post but the domain names above are only free if your site has more than 3000 visitors a month and you carry advertising.

If you have less than 3000 visitors a month they charge you for the domain registration.
