Default Why put a forum on your site ?

The site in question is a community site, the obvious benefit is community discussion, what other benefits are there ?

The things that jump to mind are
  • Food for Search Engine spiders
  • Advertising space
  • Membership list for SPAM (Oops targeted subscriber offers )

Any others ?

I suspect the whole idea of a community is to learn new things as well. What is the main subject of the community, because these questions you are asking may differ from tpye to type?
