Pirino.com - Ideas Please

Hi

I am currently working on the search engine Pirino.com and would appreciate your thoughts regarding ideas etc

Should I develop the site as a search engine only, or as a search engine/portal? If I were to develop it into a portal, would you use it?

Any other ideas/suggestions you have would be very much appreciated

Hmm. Is the site going to crawl or rely on people only submiting their pages? It's going to be hard competing as just a regular search engine so IMHO I would recomend it be specialised in searching for something, like webmaster stuff, hosting companies, pr0n, whatever. That is unless you have a really good script, then go up against google :P.

A portal would get you more money with advertising obviously but it would also take away the simplicity that has made some of these searches so famous(ahem google). Maybe if you offered a few services that were relevant to whatever specific topic your search engine searched. Or maybe just something cool. Just me $0.02

i think the current design looks too simple, try making a design with a search engine and another section with a directory possibly and another section with various links, and add more colour to the site to make it more interesting to look at and more eye catching

Wow, it looks really good! I like the new font too, it looks better than the old one. What font is it?

Just out of curiocity, what significance does Pirino have? Google said it was a last name. Is there normaly so many ads when you search? When I search for something I get like 20 ads and no actual results. The ads all seem to be the same people reguardless of my search.

Pirino has no significance to me, I just like the sound of it. And every result is an ad, it is a pay-per-click search engine. And the ads appear to be the same as they are catch-all listings for non-bidded search terms. Try a search for webmaster forum and you will see a different result because the term has a keyword listing attached to it.
