Exclamation RPG game

An RPG game stands for role play game.
I have been visiting www.after-death.net for a while now, and love the way it works, i would also love to know how to make one.
  • Are they hard to make?
  • Are they worth making?
  • Do they take long to make?
If you know how to make one, or know a website which provides info on how to make one, please post back as i'd love to know.

many thanks

lewis

I've not logged in to the site, however a quick scan of the FAQ suggests it's a text based game, so shouldn't be too difficult to do. We used to have multi user text games back in the days where everyone used 2400 baud modems, so with modern technology you should have much more available to you.

I guess you need to build / buy / liberate a world / map engine and then create your world. Probably using a database back end to store the maps. Again characters would have to be stored, along with their health & current locations, perhaps also with a movement history.

Shouldn't be too difficult to do the basics, however building the world and making it intersting will be the difficult part.

I agree - if you're making a new browser based game, you will definitively have to do something fresh - a new idea that hasnt bee done before...

Theres so many free browser games out there now that to find something new is difficult

Also, if you're going to be making one yourself, I suggest you play as many popular ones as you can, to see what works, what doesnt work, and what people want from it

Thanks for the suggestions - I've grown out of playing those games and my fascination with them has dissapeared so I guess I'm not interested in them anymore.

Thank you all non-the-less.
