| WMT Addict | I think Dreamweaver is the best. At first I couldn't figure it out, but now I've got it all down from jsut messing around with it and stuff. Great program!

| Senior Member | Frontpage is crap for the way it renders your code. For all those out there that hate WYSIWYG editors, I was one of you once. Then I took a semester class in Dreamweaver design. When you understand it and are proficient at it Dreamweaver becomes a huge asset. But then again sometimes I can't get it to do something so I go back to the code and force it that way! Notepad is great for editing something small like a broken link for a file thats already on the server the ftp client I have Filezilla(open source) lets you edit a file on a server by localy changing it and uploading when you hit save. Notepad pops up, I change a few spelling errors and its all good. Notepads good for small stuff. Dreamweavers good for making actual sites. But if you don't know the code then your nothing. So no matter what, start with notepad. Learn the code! |

| Cool Newbie | I code all my websites in notepad or pico, depending on what OS i'm using at the time. I think notepad and apache are the fastest and easiest way to make and test html/php/etc code and to make your site. To sketch a design I open up canvas, my fav drawing program and get my ideas ready then I code it all in notepad. Dreamweaver only helps you make the ideas. Once you get a good site go ahead and take out all the unneccesary dreamweaver stuff. |

| Senior Member | Dreamweaver is nice because it creates the correct formating at the top. Most people don't declare the doctype, etc etc. I agree dreamweaver has some strange code thats usually hard to read but if you make it in DW you can edit in DW. How large are the websites you make? Its quite hard to manage a 25+ page site from notepad. With dreamweaver you can change global links and all the pgs change. etc. |
