Question about links

Wonder if anyone can help me? Just been checking the webstats for one of our clients and the external links from other sites has suddenly increased - we're getting link throughs from Poland, Russia, USA, Australia, etc. etc. These websites bear no relation to our client's and they're legit websites - not adult or illegal. Any ideas? Cheers, Billy

Surely this is what you want (unless the linking sites are way off-topic)

If you need to know why someone has linked you and you can't see any obvious reason, then you'll have to ask the linking webmaster.

Thanks, Monaghan - Yes, I agree, links are good but this is a sudden increase (20 sites over 24 hours) and we cannot see the links on these sites. The sites are completely random and irrelevant and from all over the world. Just seems strange that all this has happened in such a short period of time.

We're just concerned that there's perhaps an ulterior motive for these sites to link to ours?

We have a lot of good images on the site but don't think that they're been used on these other sites as they're completely unconnected.

Is this something we should be worried about (perhaps from a security point of view)?

You can get penalties from some search engines if your link count has a large increase in a short period.

If you're not happy, then I'd suggest talking to the other webmasters to find out why they link to you is the only option.
