Default PHPBB2 or SMF ?

What would you use PHPBB2 or SMF ?

Why (coz x or y is best not an appropiate reply - technical / operational / performance issues only) ? There's no need for mods/customizations on this forum, so purely technical / performance issues need to be considered.

I have a small phpbb2 forum than could be moved to smf without too much disruption at the moment.

Why ? Joomla seems to have better smf integration, however the customer (at this stage) doesn't need them integrated.

Any GPL forums that use pure CSS & no tables ?

They both quite good. I think smf has less of a history of security problems and is more lightweight ... so if you after better security and simplicity opt for smf. I understand the support for smf is quite good as well. However in fairness to phpbb, there is a large community out there so getting help would probably quite good with them too.

If you can integrate your own templates easily then phpbb might be good idea if using your own css based designs is a neccessity.
