| Newbie | Hello, I want to have audio streaming on a website that I am designing, so that people don't have to wait for downloading the music, I think its also better to have audio streaming to protect your files from being saved, which is what I want. Please can someone tell me how to do this, do I need special software to convert audio files like mp3 into a streaming file of some kind? Or is there special code to enable streaming of a file like mp3 when I'm creating the site. I am using Dreamweaver, sorry I'm a creative type and not a programming one! (or lazy) Any help would be very much appreciated, and thankyou for reading me question. |

| Super Moderator | There's a number of easily available tools to capture streaming audio, so you're not going to stop people saving the files

| WMT Addict | you will need to convert mp3 formats to midi formats. mp3 formats are just too large to be played on the internet, it drastically slows down the loading time of your site. you can look for the software using google. Search this: mp3 to midi converter but i dont think there's much free ones around though. |

| Newbie | hi, have read lots of info and it seems that you can use http streaming, which is free and does not require a dedicated server - my hosting company does not support streaming media. But supports the use of these file types: .ra, .ram, .rm or .rpm. so I'm now looking into how you convert to these file types! |

| Super Moderator | I guess you need the full version of the Real software (there may be others that produce .ra's, Google will help)

| Super Moderator | http streaming is simply the client choosing to play the file as it downloads rather then the usualy method of downloading then opening. This is in effect a simple download as far as the web server is concerned. This should be well within the T&C's of most companies. Audio streaming will serve the mix of audio files / live feed and requires server side software to do so.
