Has anyone got any experience of rebuilding a site's reputation with search engines?

Where would you start?

What would you do?

What should you avoid doing?

Add a privacy policy, contact page, about page, add an SSL cert on the contact page if possible, register the domain for as long as possible.

Pretty sure there is an option to create a standalone page in VB..

in the webmaster panel on google webmasters maybe fire on a quick message saying ... we're under new management removing spam and so on

Actually that had me stumped for a minutes :d

when you're logged in .. on the right hand side you should see messages ...
(can't hurt to fire in a quick email ... who knows if the domain has any penalties on it)
