Default new site - not listing at all?

hi there,

For the first time I designed a website with a splash page, i.e a bit of flash and a button to enter the main site - it can be found at www.outsideeventcatering.co.uk

The main problem is that the site just is not listing on google at all, which my client is not too happy about. I have a feeling that its because when the bot finds it, its only seeing that one page perhaps with not much on it, do I need to ditch the splash page and just have the home page as the main index page?

Sorry in advance if the coding is terrible, I use dreamweaver and don't like typing code too much.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I need to sort this quickly - is it possible the hosting is at fault?

Thanks

If the domain is newly registered, then Google may sandpit it for a while, it won't ban your site just because of bad coding, but validated code will help the spiders do their job better. Hosting can make a difference, a UK server will generally give you better placement if your target market is the UK.

If you're not listed because it's new, then there's nothing you can do. Does MSN (or other) search find you ?

Default hi

hi there,

Mmmm I just tried to ckeck the site of my hosting company -its http://www.1stchoicewebhost.co.uk/

and there is no website - this may be the problem, although I can still use ftp and add files, should I switch hosts - do you know a good one?

The site has been online for over a month now and originally it was listing on google.

yahoo does list it at no: 4 still.

The front page doesn't appear to have any html links, so that will prevent a spider from following into the site content. Also you don't have much body other than 1 line of text and the embedded image, this is not good as the spiders will see it as an almost empty page and pass you by in favour of something they can read & follow.

If you want good hosting, let me know your requirements and I'll drop you a quote

ah I see, yes there is just a flash button which does link to the main site, so it should be an .jpg image saying home - which links to a page called home -instead of a flash button - or should I just make the hyperlink to the home page a text link?

As for hosting yes I am interested - I just need some emails setting up - like enquiries@outsideeventcatering.co.uk, etc there's is not much else I need, unless you have access to stats - like how many users vew the site, etc - that would be nice. Could it be done quickly and can I convert to you quickly too, my client is quite annoyed - its a shame because they were happy with my design work.

Also designing another learn to drive website, which will be a co.uk site and I want to put my own company website up too, which will be a .co.uk - and a musician website too, which is co.uk - so there will be 4 sites I need hosting, would be nice to have 1 hosting company I can trust and know is good - not like this one I am using, I was not impressed with their customer help either.

Let me know in the first instance a yearly cost for the outsideeventcatering site, many thanks!!!!

It won't make that much difference whether you have Flash or a gif/jpeg if there's not much text.

You might want to consider having some text below the image with a basic outline of the site and what the visitor can expect (and a few suitable keywords to help the spiders along their way with a good ranking)

I've sent you a PM about hosting. A small reseller would probably be best as you have a few sites to host.

1) Search engine submission to google, yahoo, msn, etc.
2) Directory submission.
3) Public relation. I joined few forums, and put my site on the signature.
4) Place this site URL to my other site footer.
5) Join link exchange.

wait for a week and check your link at google again. Googlebot should reach your site within days, from my experience.

If you have poor navigation, search engines won't be able to follow your links, even if they do get to your main page.
