| Newbie | For some reason all of a sudden my site has dropped from 43 to 234 in YAHOO! UK search results? I haven't done anything new to the site or changed it since the drop in placement. Does anyone know why this would happen? I am still the same place (11th) in MSN search results so not sure why it's just yahoo. I have also never been able to find myself in the Google results at all after 5-6 months. I am currently trying to build up reputable backlinks and also in the process of writing some articles to submit but I know these things take time to take effect, however I am doing these things to improve my listing place and have had a bit of a shock seeing me drop to 234 instead of up! Any advice would be appreciated... |

| Super Moderator | SEO is a black art Your best bet is to hang round a few SEO forums and get the word on what the engines are doing with their ranking systems as they change them regularly. Ranking high in 1 engine, yet low in another is not an uncommon issue ![]() Your SEO techniques may have been OK when you were indexed but could be deemed as a spam technique by new ranking system, or it could be just that 200 other sites have got a better rank since your last site update

| Active Member | The fact that you haven't done anything to the site to cause it to drop may be exactly why it has dropped. Consider that search engines are looking for up to date, live, active web sites, not tomb stones. If your site content isn't changing every week then that may well result in the search engines knocking it down the rankings over time.
