| Newbie | Hi, http://www.joeant.com (paid) Deviating slightly with regard to money: Consider the free ones as well. Try http://www.searchwarp.com (free) http:www.//onemission.com (free) The better ones work exactly the same and the difference is the price. Paid listings may include a "star", out-standing color or things to that effect. However the very best ones will have a reasonable pagerank and are better optimised. Try checking the keyword densities of a particular category, and you might find that a page( with a few or more entries), have densities that are too high and borderline keyword stuffing. Too much stuffing can lead to it getting a lower pagerank, to some degree anyway. (In other words, supposing that there was ten "web design" listings on the same page, then it can easily happen that each customers descriptions are very similar. Which means that they are too many incidences of such keywords, per individual webpage.) The ideal directory will have a tight focus. In other words, a submitted site should be as relevant as possible to the category that it is in. The ideal directory will also have editor input, to maintain a respectable keyword density by either editing the description submitted, or adding other text to compensate, where it is not practical. This rarely happens though, as the workload is too great. The primary difference between a directory and a linkfarm, is focus and wreckless acceptance with little or no text. Just links This can also explain why article directories like www.ezinearticles have great pagerank, while having thousands of outgoing links. (That is not exactly true, as it successfully uses the benefits of r.s.s., and the giving out of various buttons, etc, to redeem their links ratio.) But "truer", in cases where no such "gimmicks", lol, are used. |
