| Moderator | Using cpanel part one. (This tutorial took me 2 days to make.) Well this is for you; in here I will teach you how to use cpanel, which is useful if you want to make a professional website with almost no limits. There are a few things you must learn before using cpanel, the first one using your e-mail. Go to the symbol that looks like this. ![]() To log into cpanel, you just type: www.yourdomain.com/cpanel and then you can enter your username and password using HTTP authorisation. A HTTP error code 401 will come up if you have forgotten your password or username, and you should be able to reset it if you type www.yourdomain.com/cpanel and then click cancel. Then enter the e-mail that you use. If you have not yet created a default e-mail, then contact the web hosting service that you are using, and they will be able to reset it. To use the e-mail you go to the sign. Then you will see this on your screen.Note: Your web hosting service may not have all the features mentioned here. Quote:
The next part we look at is Manage/Add/Remove Accounts. In this part we change the accounts, this is the most important part of this e-mail part, without it, you will have no e-mail accounts to use. When you log in you replace the ?@? with a ?+?. Now let?s look at how to manage an account. Go to any of the buttons on the right of any of the e-mail accounts and you can edit them with ease. To delete or remove an account click the orange ?delete? button which is on the right of the e-mail, but on the left of editing all the accounts. To add a account just go to Add Account at the bottom of the page and then enter the e-mail address, the password you wish to use, then the quota. If you leave it at unlimited or blank, then this user gets unlimited web space. This is not recommended, because it will hog all the space if they forget to check there account. Setting a default address: this is not important, and I have not done it, but if you want to do it just go to the bottom and click on [ Set Default Address ] and then you can set a Default address. If you enter :blackhole: then all the incoming mail will be discarded, and if you enter :fail: no such address here then it will just bounce it. Bouncing means that it gets returned to the sender as an error message. Autoresponders are things that automatically send a reply. These can be quite annoying, because they use SMTP, and if one mail box that sends it bounces an e-mail. To set one up go to Add auto responders at the bottom of the page, and then you get loads of boxes, you can add any e-mail in the box from a parked, add-on or sub-domain. Then in the next line you will have to enter who it is from, and you can make something up so that the person cannot reply, or just create a new mailing account on a free e-mail site like hotmail or gmail so that you will not get tracked correctly. Be careful with hotmail accounts as they can track what you do, and if it comes from a cpanel or a forum software. The next thing you have to type is the subject, which is usually Re: %subject%. It is like that because of the following reason. If the subject of the e-mail was hsjkfhaj then the mail back will be Re: hsjkfhaj. Then the next thing is the character set, I would recommend that you leave that because it is a very advanced option and it related to the languages of the e-mail. The next is weather you want to use html in the message. Check the box if you plan to use HTML, keep the checkbox blank if you do not use html and just basic text. Then you click Create/Modify if you want to keep the settings, if the settings are bad, then you can click back at the bottom or you can click clear to restart the whole entire thing. The next topic that I will cover is the E-mail filters, which helps to block spam and helps to prevent abuse and pointless e-mail in your inbox. Just go to ?add a filter? at the bottom of the page above the test box, and then you enter the details according. I would recommend filtering words that are commonly used in the message that gives evidence of the spammish e-mail Forwarders. What forwarders do is send mail from one e-mail to another, but not a whole entire domain, this is useful if you need to get all your messages in your box or redirect other people?s messages to their inbox. This also works for sub-domains and add-on domains. To set this up click ?Add Forwarder? at the bottom of the page, and then you just enter the details accordingly. Mailing lists. What mailing lists do is send a mass e-mail to loads of people, which is useful for Annocements of your sites. To set them up go to the mailing lists link in the e-mail area. Then you click ?add Mailing List? at the bottom of the page. Then you create a mailing list off one of your domains. Once you have done that, you can access your mailing list using the domain that you have added it onto, so say that in created one called ?Robert? on teenout, and then it would look like www.teenout.com/robert. Some hosts do not provide mailing lists because people do use them for spammish behaviour. Only 1 of my 2 cpanel hosts actually has them built in. I have never used a mailing list before, so I cannot give any more information on it. Spam assassin: What this does is create a spam box and uses common intelligence to block and delete spam. First click on the Spam assassin link in cpanel. Then you can enable or disable any of the spam things by clicking on the links provided. You can also configure the spam assassin as well. What that does is configures and the whole entire spam system and what to block and what to keep. I have finished the mailing part and mailing information; the next part will be about using FTP, port numbers, and using the stats, and the best stats that you will want to use. Was this usful?
