Speed optimization

I'm looking for a good PHP speed analyzer and load tester so I can see where my bottlenecks are in my scripts. Anyone have any suggestions? I run Linux.

try looking for SELECT * and missing or inefficient WHERE or LIMIT clauses on the SELECT.

As for automation of this, I would resort to Google or your favourite PHP or MySQL sites, whether there's any GPL tools or not I don't know, generally load testing tools are quite expensive.

Well I read some time ago about a profiler written by one of the main contributers to PHP I think. I can't remember the name of it, it's supposed to be pretty good, though. I was hoping someone would suggest it or know of the name.

In my experience, it's usually inefficient SQL that's the root cause of problems, try dumping the prepared SQL queries to a log file and running them though a query tool and see how efficient they are.

You could look into using some of the caching engines, such as APC or Xcache.

Obviously the leaner your SQL queries the better the performance will be, but if you can cache code in memory it will make things go faster
