Default Meepings from Forbairt...

Hi All,

Just a short introduction ...

My name is James ... and I'm a webaholic ...

I'm a web design / graphic designer / programmer / seo / IT / jack of all trades.

My client base is mainly in ireland but I do have clients in NI as well as the UK and as far afield as Austria.

My username is actually from the Irish word for Growth / Development and I'm Forbairt on a lot of boards.

I started professionally into webdesign in 2001 (previous to that I was a hobbiest)

Hoping this forum will be a good place to meet some of the UK's brightest.

James

It is strange to join a forum with this many users / new names ... and not have a clue who any of them are I must admit.

Welcome onboard, 2001 is quite a long time ago in terms of current standards, however, I remember using an early version of NCSA Mosaic on the Mac in the early 90's and thinking that this would never take off .

It does make me feel old to think that I was using the Internet before the term Web was thought of, it was only the bigger universities and commercial communication / computer companies who had access to the Internet in those days - we had a huge 128Kb/s link from the UK to USA and massive 1Mb/s link between the sites in the local town!

I started on the web in 1996 when I started uni ... previous to that I'd had little or no "web" access ... apart from knowing about all the bbs services and having a brother who was heavily into all that. I think I made my first webpage around that time as well. The usual young fool type stuff ... dark brooding .. poetry ... dark imagery ..

I was using mosaic I'd guess around that time on sun machines or was it early netscape .. hmm.. not entirely sure.

I was programming in perl from about 97 when I had summer placement and again the following year ... automating extraction / checking in of files / branches and so on.

I joined a number of BBS's around that time as well.
olymp.idle.at (a earlier site I did) ... which is a SSH online community .. and karanet.at ... similar again

Karanet is still on the go ... so while I wasn't online from the early 90's I was away of what was happening ... and pretty quickly got into it.

Actually I wonder if thanatos (spelling) BBS still exists in the UK ... (again a telnet / ssh based community)

Thanks for the welcome

I first got access to the big bad internet in 1994 and it's been downhill ever since
