why learn css when all you want to make is a simple website (or any website for that matter) when you know all of html. ok maybe for making custom forum skins, but that about it.its not as as important as php or hmtl itself please post your reasons for leanring it.

i don't know much about CSS but what i do know is that say if you wanted to change the template for an event like easter or christmas you can do it with CSS in a few seconds but in HTML it would take quite a bit longer, or so i've heard, also i think it could have an affect on SEO but i'm not sure

mm'kay, CSS.

CSS is helpful for a number of reasons. Say you have a website with about 10 pages, and you realise "oh no, my font is too small" Then you would have to go to each page 1 by one.

If you have a link to one .css it makes life much easier and simple, it makes your webpage smaler and easier to crawl by search engines.

This is the same for a config.php file.

css allows you to seperate layout from content, this can result in faster loading pages as the browser should cache the stylesheet (assuming you use an external sheet).

If you also use CSS to position your content rather than tables, then you'll further reduce your page load times as there'll no longer be all those <td> tags to read & render.

Also learn a bit of JavaScript and you can then manipulate the styles on-the fly and produce your own DHTML effects.
