Default Strange space when page viewed in IE

Its me again, i scrapped the idea of making the footer go to the bottom of the page and changed to a tables based lay out but i am now having different troubles.

The page can be viewed here: http://nanothree.net/layout/index.php

There is a large block of colur seperating the the content box from its header, if i file the content box with a few line breaks then it eventually fills up this isnt a serious point but i would like some advice on how to fix it.

Secondly, if you view the page in Firefox you will see 2 smaller content boxes to he right of the main area, but when viewed in IE they disappear, can anyone tell me why?

i have (somehow) fixed the problem of the missing boxes but i am still not sure about the space between the content header and the actual content, this is only in IE though i have fixed it in firefox
