    Default Advice on new computer.

Hello, i wanted to uopgrade my computer but after alot of thinking have decided to buy a new on instead.

Wandered if anyone could point me in the right direction as to which make and specifications to go for.

I will be using some powerful graphics programs as well which i like to use simultaniously. I dont want to have to wait to long while while things load up, it needs to be really fast and efficient, as well as reliable.

    Any ideas?

Why not build something with one of the new Pentium dual core or AMD 64bit dual core CPU's ? They'll crunch through any graphics manipulation you can throw at them, not cheap however

You'll also want the fastest I/O subsystem possible, SCSI would be the obvious choice, but this again is expensive, so SATA would probably be the best option on price / performance grounds.

You'd want the 64bit version of XP to get the most out of the above hardware though.

Lots of RAM, if you're doing a lot of graphics, then at least 1Gb, probably much more.

also i would suggest you not using Windows XP as it uses alot of RAM. Also get it custom built its cheaper and better if you want specific componants

Or you could go the way thats not incredibly confusing and just buy a Mac. Thats what I did, buy the mac, upgrade the memory(simple) and your good to go.

    Angry What about a Mac?

If yourself or someone in your household is a student then buy using the academic discount programs which are available for both Mac and Windows.

For a lot of graphics Mac's are the preffered choice. Otherwise buy a bareboned system from Tigerdirect.com or computergeeks.com and then either buy the Windows XP os or use Linux.
