Just curious, anyone else a Nominet member and have a system for catching .uk domains or otherwise involved in trading domain names?

We're Nominet members, but even if we weren't I'd probably find some way of doing it

I'm currently subscribed to one of the droplist systems and get a weekly set of lists, though I suspect we'll probably write our own solution at some point - at the moment I'm just watching how this all works

It's all quite simple really in theory, just poll the DAC (within the constraints of their system limits) and submit a registration request when you get a "domain not registered" reply

I wrote my system as an intellectual exercise, but have caught quite a few names for myself and some customers, just waiting on my billing system provider to upgrade before I can make it a public offering.

Nothing to see really, a simple admin web page for me to add names & registrants followed by an email with the catch status based on the content of the EPP reply.

Presently it's in C# and it just burbles away in the background on a Windows server usually shows 0% CPU use and about 7Mb of memory (might be able to reduce this by removing the legacy PGP code). It will also self maintain the database and update itself in the gaps between catching. Once the new billing system is operational, then I'll be able to hook in the administration and ordering systems.

I'm considering rewrite into another langauge, but C# & PHP are what I'm doing more of my work in at present and I can't see a PHP version being that fast
