Default Why do so many people use proxies?

What is the point in using a proxy to post on a "normal" forum like this? I can understand the "need" to use a proxy to view porn or other dubious content so their parents can't see where they've been visiting, but why would people need to hide when posting on "normal" web visit asking about a web host (for example)?

How's about listing some legitimate uses of a proxy for "normal" daily use and the justification?

The only vaguely legitimate reason would be if your ISP had rubbish routing ...

Though to be honest that's a really weak excuse

Anybody in offices that post to this forum(like me) would probably go through a proxy. Same with college campus internet connections. Not everyone connects from home.

from an office you'd naturally go via the corporate proxy, but surely not also through an anonymous proxy as this would ring alarm bells with the local security team?

Ah. Didn't realise we were talking about anonymous proxies. Thought we were talking proxies in general. My bad.

As for anonymous proxy use on this site? I just think way too many are paranoid about the secret societies that are out there... Check out the comments on here... madness!

There doesn't seem to be a reliable way of blocking anonymous proxies from posting ...

Blocking dodgy users from registering seems to be working though
